Mutiny Within
Review by Alex Gilbert - February, 2010

New Jersey progressive metallers MUTINY WITHIN are way ahead of their time.  I mean, for how young they are (some under 21!), these guys are technically advanced, equipped with one of the most powerful vocal ranges as of late in metal, and can shred like the already established metal giants.  Their Roadrunner Records self-titled debut is a brilliant album, and catchy without a doubt.

The release opens up with “Awake”, starting off with heartfelt piano transitioning into some fast and progressively proficient metal assaults.  The verses stomp through like no one’s business as vocalist Chris Clancy introduces his sing / scream attack.  Think Into Eternity-style vocals with more of an operatic approach.  When the hooky chorus to “Awake” unleashes, wow, this guy has pipes, and a ton of talent!  It’s so catchy, while pulling your heart’s strings at the same time.  And don’t forget about the guitar solo shred-a-thon between both axe men!  Moving along, “Lethean” unleashes crazy fretboard action in the intro, and moves along to be MUTINY WITHIN at their most fierce.  I love hearing this side of the band, and the integrity of the sound never lets up once.   These youngsters can really play the shit out of their instruments.

Buy this now!  With such massive compositions and extremely memorable melodies, their self-titled is an early contender for the album of the year lists, and MUTINY WITHIN is definitely on their way to metal stardom.  I’m sure you’re going to be seeing MUTINY WITHIN’s name everywhere in the near future.  Since when did debut albums sound this good?
